Zero Build: Plan the Next Piece of Cover
GAME MODE Staff·Aug 9, 2026· 1m read
When you cannot place a wall, movement decisions become part of your defense.

Fortnite’s Zero Build removes player construction and includes a recharging Overshield as part of its defensive setup. Epic’s introduction also highlights movement tools such as sprinting and mantling. The resulting question is simple: where will you go when the place you are standing becomes unsafe? Look one position ahead
Before shooting, identify a nearby piece of cover and an alternative route. An excellent view can become a poor fighting position if it leaves you exposed from several directions. Try to enter encounters with a plan for both pressure and retreat.
When moving with a squad, avoid crossing the same open ground at unrelated times. A short call about the next building, ridge, or obstacle can bring everyone’s attention to the same decision.
Use fights to learn the map
After an elimination, consider whether the problem began before the first shot. Did you approach from below, lose track of another angle, or spend too long in the open? These are useful corrections regardless of the current weapon pool. Seasonal items change, but deliberately choosing positions remains a skill you can carry between updates. Start with one familiar area and learn several ways to leave it.
