Activision says the October 23 launch is a separate purchase, while Black Ops 7, Black Ops 6, and Modern Warfare III stay on Game Pass Ultimate.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 won’t be on Game Pass when it launches on October 23. Activision confirmed on October 15 that it’s a standalone release, so if you want to play at launch, you’ll have to buy it separately. It won’t be included with Game Pass until Holiday 2027.
Didn’t Activision already say this?
Partly. Back in May, Activision said Modern Warfare 4 would not be on Game Pass at launch. The new post puts a timeframe on it.
Until then, Game Pass Ultimate subscribers keep access to Black Ops 7, Black Ops 6 and Modern Warfare III.
What does a digital preorder include?
- Campaign Early Access, which began October 16
- DMZ Early Access, starting October 20
- The Hunter Killer Operator Skin
- The Gilded Pearl Camo Pack
Any digital edition also adds the Inner Circuit M4 Weapon Blueprint. On Xbox consoles, it gets a translucent green finish to mark 25 years of Xbox.
Where can Xbox players preorder?
Through the Xbox Store on console, the Xbox app on PC and the Microsoft Store. With Xbox Play Anywhere, a single purchase there covers both Xbox Series X|S and PC.
Is there a deal for returning players?
There is, and it ends soon. If you own and have played a Call of Duty released in 2019 or later on the same platform account, the preorder loyalty offer takes 10% off the Vault Edition. Free-to-play and mobile games don’t count.
The offer ends October 23, when Modern Warfare 4 launches on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PC and Nintendo Switch 2.
