Pokemon TCG Closes the Mega Evolution Block With Pitch Black

The block's final chapter

The Pokemon Trading Card Game closes out its Mega Evolution block with a compact but chase-heavy set. Mega Evolution: Pitch Black releases July 17, 2026, with prerelease events running July 4 to 12. At 120 cards, it is described as the smallest set of the Mega Evolution block, making its hits feel all the more concentrated.

The flagship chase card is Mega Darkrai ex, a fittingly ominous face for a set called Pitch Black. It headlines a lineup of powerful Mega ex cards that collectors and competitive players alike will be hunting.

What to chase

The set's key cards and products give collectors plenty to target:

• Mega Darkrai ex leads, alongside Mega Chandelure ex, Mega Excadrill ex, and Mega Zeraora ex.
• Mega Slowbro ex and Mega Delphox ex appear as promos.
• Notable Supporter cards include Gladion's Final Battle and Misty's Vitality, each with multiple rarity versions.
• The product lineup spans booster boxes, standard and Pokemon Center-exclusive Elite Trainer Boxes, Build and Battle boxes, Booster Bundles, and themed blisters.

Store promos add Primarina, Zarude, and Armarouge for players picking up product at retail.

Where it fits

Pitch Black is the third 2026 Mega Evolution expansion, following Chaos Rising in May and the earlier Perfect Order set. As the block's finale, it caps a year that has kept Mega Evolution mechanics at the center of the modern game, giving the format a strong send-off before the next block begins.

For collectors, the small set size is a double-edged sword. Fewer cards can mean a more attainable master set, but it also concentrates demand on the marquee Mega ex chase cards, which tends to push their secondary-market prices higher. The Pokemon Center-exclusive Elite Trainer Box, as always, is likely to be a hot item for collectors who prize the alternate packaging.

Exact secret-rare counts and official pricing per product were still settling around release, so it is worth confirming specifics before making big purchases. But as a capstone to the Mega Evolution era, Pitch Black delivers a tight, desirable set anchored by one of the most striking Mega cards yet.
