Charting the franchise's future

With Black Flag Resynced launched and Shadows winding down, attention turns to what comes next for Assassin's Creed. The roadmap is unusually full, spanning a darker single-player entry, a competitive multiplayer experiment, a mobile open-world game, and a live-action Netflix series. Ubisoft is spreading the franchise across formats like never before.

The headliner for traditional fans is Hexe, a project shrouded in secrecy but confirmed to be in active development.

What is in the pipeline

The known projects break down clearly, with some details still unconfirmed:

  • Hexe, in development at Ubisoft Montreal with creative director Jean Guesdon, billed as a unique, darker, narrative-driven entry that will connect to the Animus Hub. It has no confirmed release date or platforms.
  • Leaks widely place Hexe in Central Europe during the 16th-century witch trials, with speculation pointing to a 2027 to 2029 window, though those setting and date details are unconfirmed.
  • Codename Invictus, a confirmed PvP multiplayer Assassin's Creed led by For Honor veterans at Ubisoft Montreal, with community playtests planned.
  • Assassin's Creed Jade, a mobile open-world game set in ancient China for iOS and Android.
  • A live-action Assassin's Creed Netflix series in development.

Reading the strategy

The lineup reveals a franchise deliberately diversifying. Hexe represents the prestige single-player future, and its reported witch-trial setting and darker tone would mark a distinct departure from the large historical epics of recent years. The connection to the Animus Hub signals Ubisoft's intent to link its games under a shared live-service framework, for better or worse.

Invictus is the bigger gamble. A PvP multiplayer Assassin's Creed is uncharted territory for a series built on single-player historical adventures, and entrusting it to For Honor veterans suggests Ubisoft is serious about the competitive angle. Playtests will reveal whether the fantasy of assassins dueling one another translates into compelling multiplayer.

Hexe has also seen leadership churn, with an original creative director and a game director both departing in 2026 before Guesdon became attached, which adds some uncertainty to its development. Ubisoft has said it will stay quiet during production, so concrete details may be scarce for a while.

Rounding out the picture, Jade extends the series to mobile and a Netflix show pushes it into television, reinforcing that Assassin's Creed is now a multi-format franchise. With Black Flag Resynced providing a strong present, the roadmap suggests an ambitious, varied future, even if much of it remains under wraps.
