Minecraft for Switch 2 Pre-Orders Open With a Free Upgrade for Owners

The native version launches October 27 at $29.99, with Vibrant Visuals on by default and the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack in every edition.
Minecraft is getting a native Nintendo Switch 2 version on October 27, and you can pre-order it now. Mojang opened pre-orders on October 7 and confirmed that if you own the digital Nintendo Switch version, you can move to the new one for free in most territories.
Three digital editions

Every version includes the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack, which Nintendo’s listing says has 15 tracks and 40 skins. Prefer a box on the shelf? A physical edition can be pre-ordered at retail.
Do you have to pay again?
Not if you own the digital version. Until the end of January 2027, owners of the digital Nintendo Switch version can get the digital Standard Edition for Switch 2 at no cost in most territories. The fine print:
- Japan and Taiwan are the exceptions, at 100 yen and 30 New Taiwan dollars.
- Bigger editions: upgrades to the Deluxe or Ultimate Collection are discounted.
- Where: the offer runs only through the Nintendo eShop.
- Your worlds: existing Switch worlds carry over to the new version.
Vibrant Visuals by default
On Switch 2, Vibrant Visuals is the default look, adding enhanced lighting and shadows, though it isn’t available in split-screen or with some Marketplace content.
One catch for spenders: Minecoins included with an edition or bought on a Nintendo device must be spent in the Nintendo ecosystem.
