Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced got New Game+ on Tuesday, October 27. Title Update 1.0.8, which Ubisoft calls the game’s final major content update, also adds a Nightmare Mode, new community chests and the takedown animations from the original game.

The update went live on all platforms at 14:00 UTC (10:00 AM ET, 7:00 AM PT), a day after Ubisoft posted the patch notes. Quality-of-life updates will follow over the coming months.

Edward keeps the Kenway fleet, but the fog comes back

New Game+ sends Edward back to the start with a long list of his progress intact:

  • Edward’s tools, upgrades, unlocked weapons and trinkets
  • The Jackdaw’s upgrades
  • Unlocked officer abilities and pets
  • Money, materials and trade goods
  • Unlocked outfits and hideout progression
  • The Kenway fleet, Codex items and store purchases

Some things don’t make the trip. Officers have to be recruited again, quest-related items are removed, and the map’s fog resets, so forts have to be retaken.

Each New Game+ run is harder, with more Elite Soldiers and max-rank ships on patrol, and you can repeat it up to five times, reaching New Game+++++. A new currency, Escudos, buys New Game+-exclusive outfits and items. It is earned by completing challenges and looting previously completed chests, and it can be exchanged for Reales at the General Store.

Nightmare Mode removes the safety nets

The new Nightmare Mode changes how Edward fights, sneaks and sails.

In combat

Enemies do 1.8x damage and the parry window is shorter. The white glint on enemy attacks is gone, and the one-shot kill safety is disabled.

In stealth

Enemies detect Edward faster, investigate for longer and can hear him whenever he moves faster than a walk. To stay hidden in a high spot, he has to be at least 6m above them instead of 4m.

At sea and underwater

All ship damage goes up, urchins and jellyfish do double damage, and the oxygen meter runs down faster.

Original takedowns and chests without easy hints

Takedown animations from the original game are back, including hidden blade, unarmed, single sword and gunblade takedowns. New outfits, pet skins and trinkets are collected through New Game+.

Ubisoft has also hidden new community chests, some holding community-requested rewards, and says it won’t give easy hints. One fix addresses being unable to launch in Offline Mode after a lost server connection, and the update also increases the number of Rogue Waves during storms.
