Mark March 3, 2028. That’s when A24 and Bandai Namco Entertainment’s live-action Elden Ring film opens in theaters. Bandai Namco announced the date and the full cast on April 20, 2026, and said the film is being shot for IMAX.
Who’s making it?
Alex Garland, whose recent films include Civil War and Warfare, wrote the script and is directing. According to Deadline, Peter Rice is producing alongside Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich of DNA, George R. R. Martin and Vince Gerardis.
If Martin’s name rings a bell, that’s because he wrote the mythological story behind the game, which was created under the guidance of FromSoftware’s Hidetaka Miyazaki.
Who’s in the cast?
Kit Connor and Ben Whishaw lead the cast. Joining them:
- Cailee Spaeny
- Tom Burke
- Havana Rose Liu
- Sonoya Mizuno
- Jonathan Pryce
- Ruby Cruz
- Nick Offerman
- John Hodgkinson
- Jefferson Hall

How far along is it?
The adaptation was first announced in May 2025, when Garland was confirmed as its writer and director. When the release date was revealed, Bandai Namco said production would begin in spring 2026, and Deadline reported that the film was already in production.
The game itself launched on February 25, 2022 and has shipped more than 30 million units worldwide. Its world has since grown with the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, the co-op spinoff Nightreign and, this August, a Switch 2 edition. Until the film arrives, you can return to the Lands Between on PlayStation, Xbox, PC and now Switch 2.
