Double elimination gives a competitor two tournament losses before elimination. Evo’s rules distinguish the winners side from the losers side, where a player continues after a first defeat. That structure explains why a grand final can require another set even after one finalist appears to have won. (Evo official tournament rules)

Keep three scoreboards separate

A round is part of a game, a game is part of a set, and a set result advances the bracket. Broadcast graphics can show several of these at once. Before reacting to a final hit, check whether it ended the round, the game, or the entire set.

The competitor arriving from the winners side has not yet lost a set. If the losers-side finalist wins their first meeting, both players now have one loss: the bracket resets, and another set decides the title under that format.

Watch adaptation across a set

Notice what happens after a successful defensive read. Does the attacker repeat the sequence, pause, or change their approach? Those adjustments are the drama beneath the health bars. Check the specific game and event rules for set lengths, because different stages can use different formats. Once you understand the bracket, an apparent second final becomes the payoff to the whole tournament.
