Modern Warfare 4 Is Out: How Its 33 Operators and Apex Attachments Unlock
GAME MODE Staff·Oct 31, 2026· 3m read
Five Operators are available from the start, and most of the rest come from editions, campaign missions, DMZ levels and challenges. You also choose how to Prestige.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 went live worldwide on Friday, October 23, and Activision’s launch guides spell out how its 33 Operators and new Apex Attachments are earned. It is also the first Call of Duty to let you choose between two kinds of Prestige, which decides how much progress you give up when you reset.
Xbox Wire lists the game on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC with Xbox Play Anywhere, Steam, Battle.net, Nintendo Switch 2 and PlayStation 5, but not on Xbox One. Its prices are $69.99 for the Standard Edition and $99.99 for the Vault Edition.
Where all 33 Operators come from
Every Operator works in both Multiplayer and DMZ, and you can now assign a different Operator to each loadout. This is how Activision says they unlock:
| How you get them | Operators |
|---|---|
| Available immediately | Min-Hee, CTSFO, Mil-Sim KSK Arctic, UCTF, Army SF Airborne |
| Digital Standard or Vault Edition pre-order | Hunter Killer |
| Vault Edition | Ghost, Blix, Valeria, Price, SAS, South Korean SF, COM FST, KSK Amphibious |
| Campaign missions (eight Operators) | Including Cho (“Mayhem”), Dallas (“Hired Gun”) and Luca (“Traffic”) |
| DMZ Player Levels | Reece (Level 4), Coffey (Level 9), Simone (Level 15), Hector (Level 19) |
| Multiplayer challenges (five Operators) | Including Zimo, for 50 Operator headshot kills |
| Call of Duty Endowment Valor Pack | Kyle |
| Listed as [CLASSIFIED] | Ju Kwon |
Apex Attachments change how a gun works
Apex Attachments are the final reward for fully leveling a supported weapon. They are equipped separately from standard Gunsmith Attachments and don’t take up an Attachment slot.
Activision says they fundamentally change how a weapon performs rather than adjusting its stats. The Han 86’s Han X20 Skybreaker fires a 20mm airburst shell, for example, and the M4 Hurricane converts the M4 into a top-loading 5.7x28mm variant. The Vault Edition’s five-weapon Signature Weapon Collection comes with Apex Attachments too.
Standard Attachments unlock only once. After that, each one is available on every weapon that uses it.
The launch arsenal, counted
Here is what Modern Warfare 4 launched with, by Activision’s count, including 33 weapons:
- Primary weapons (24): 8 Assault Rifles, 5 SMGs, 2 Shotguns, 3 LMGs, 3 Marksman Rifles, 3 Sniper Rifles
- Secondary weapons (8): 4 Pistols, 4 Launchers
- Melee (1): the FSS Carbon Edge 1095 knife
- Gear: 9 Tacticals, 11 Lethals, 12 Field Upgrades
- Killstreaks and Perks: 17 Killstreaks, 18 Multiplayer Perks (6 per Perk category)
- Multiplayer maps (20): 12 new 6v6 maps, 4 Gunfight maps, 3 Ground War maps and the Kill Block modular training facility
Create-a-Class unlocks at Player Level 4. Until then, you pick from premade Default Loadouts.
Classic or Regular Prestige?
Multiplayer progression runs through 55 Levels, and the game has 10 Prestige levels and 1,000 Prestige Master levels. DMZ has its own separate 70-level track. DMZ XP also counts toward the 1-55 Player Progression, but Multiplayer and Warzone XP don’t count toward your DMZ Level.
When you Prestige, you now pick one of two paths. Classic Prestige resets your level unlocks and Create-a-Class progress in exchange for a 20% XP boost, one Permanent Unlock Token and bonus cosmetic rewards. Regular Prestige restarts you from Level 1 but keeps all of your level unlocks and Create-a-Class content.
