Modern Warfare 4 Adds Possession and Infected for Halloween, Raises DMZ Cash Rewards

Dynamic Ops in DMZ now pay 10,000–20,000 Cash instead of 5,000–10,000, and XP earn rates are up in several Multiplayer modes after the October 29 and 30 updates.

Modern Warfare 4 has two new Halloween Party Modes. Infinity Ward added Possession on Thursday, October 29, and Infected on Friday, October 30. Those two updates also raised XP earn rates in several Multiplayer modes and increased the Cash that DMZ pays out.
For DMZ players, the Cash change is the one to know about. Cash pays for recovering MIA Operators, the Vendor, the Gunsmith and DMZ Prestige.
Possession and Infected join the playlist
Possession arrived in the October 29 update, listed as a new Halloween Party Mode. The patch notes don’t spell out its rules. Infected followed on October 30, also as a Halloween Party Mode, with Infinity Ward saying it had joined the playlist for Halloween weekend.
The October 29 update changed progression too. Infinity Ward’s note reads:
We’ve increased XP earn rates across several Multiplayer modes to improve consistency in progression.
A day earlier, the October 28 update brought the first broad weapon tuning pass, focused on normalizing hit location damage for a more consistent TTK and on SMG performance. It also reduced dive velocity by 23% as a short-term fix for a sprint-jump-dive speed exploit.

How much more Cash DMZ pays
On October 29, Infinity Ward made a slight DMZ economy adjustment, increasing the Cash rewarded for Dynamic Ops, Side Ops and Story Mission replays, but it didn’t list amounts. The October 30 notes adjust DMZ Cash rewards to improve the in-game economy and do give figures:
- Dynamic Ops: 10,000–20,000 Cash, up from 5,000–10,000
- Side Ops: 2,000 Cash, up from 500
- Mission Steps: 500 Cash per completed step, up from 300
Infinity Ward doesn’t say whether the October 30 figures come on top of the October 29 adjustment or describe the same change.
What DMZ Cash pays for
- MIA Operators: an eliminated Operator goes MIA, and you spend Cash to recover them with their Traits. The more Trait Points, the higher the cost.
- The Vendor: weapons and items, unlocked at DMZ Player Level 5.
- The Gunsmith: attachments and weapon builds, unlocked at Level 10.
- DMZ Prestige: 200,000 DMZ Cash for the first, 300,000 for the second and 500,000 for the third and every one after.
Fixes in the October 29 and 30 updates
Infinity Ward called October 30 a smaller update going into the weekend. Fixes across the two days include:
- A black screen after switching teams with auto-assign before a Private Match
- Players being kicked for inactivity too early in Search and Destroy
- Exploits on Coal
- A crash in the FOB caused by spamming knife attacks
- Players sometimes being unable to buy Intel from the Boss Board, which blocked progress on the Information Power Order
- Enemy helicopters crashing into the Exfil helicopter and eliminating players during extraction
- The Scavenger detecting players immediately on deployment
Players who passed DMZ Level 37 before a fix didn’t receive the 3-Plate Armor Vest reward, and Infinity Ward says it is working on getting the item to them. Season 1 launches on Friday, November 6.
