Protect Your Save Before Switching From Desktop to Handheld

A cloud conflict deserves a pause. Check where you last played before choosing which version of your progress to keep.

A Steam Cloud conflict means local and cloud files disagree, and Steam cannot automatically choose which version you intended to keep. Valve advises checking the timestamps against when and where you last played. The newest-looking file is a clue, not a reason to dismiss the decision without thinking. (Valve Steam Cloud support)
Reconstruct your last session
Before selecting a version, identify the device where you made the progress you want. Consider whether that session was offline or whether you closed the device before synchronization finished. A laptop, desktop, and handheld can each hold a different point in the same adventure.
If the game provides separate save slots or an export option, use those deliberately. Keep an additional copy of important local saves before attempting a recovery, using the game's documented save location. Avoid deleting folders as a first response to an unclear prompt.
Make switching devices a habit
Finish the game session, let Steam synchronize, and check its cloud status before starting on the second device. After offline travel, reconnect the device that holds your latest progress before launching the game elsewhere.
Cloud synchronization is convenient, but convenience works best with a clear handoff. Our recommendation is to treat a save conflict like a fork in your play history: first establish which branch contains the run you care about. A short pause is far less frustrating than discovering that a rushed click replaced the evening you meant to keep.
