Assassin’s Creed Shadows: Make Space for a Deliberate Attack
GAME MODE Staff·Jul 17, 2026· 1m read
Learn the difference between a quick strike and a committed opening.

Shadows distinguishes light and heavy attacks and adds Posture attacks by holding an attack input. Ubisoft’s combat overview also describes opportunities created through defensive timing, including perfect dodges. These mechanics reward understanding the opening before committing to a long animation. (Ubisoft Shadows combat overview)
Practice against a readable opponent
Choose a manageable encounter and pay attention to the enemy’s preparation. Try defending through an attack, then making one deliberate response. Repeating a small sequence makes the timing easier to recognize than using every available ability at once.
Change weapons or protagonists after you understand that baseline. Different moves and reach can alter which openings feel comfortable, so avoid assuming a familiar rhythm transfers without adjustment.
Keep room to recover
Notice your position relative to other enemies before committing. Winning a duel against the opponent directly ahead does not help if a second enemy can interrupt from the side. Move until the fight is easier to read, then use the opening you practiced. After a difficult encounter, identify whether the problem was timing, spacing, or target selection. Each suggests a more useful next step than simply attacking more aggressively on the next attempt.
